HOBOS AND BEYOND

During the first part of August in the year of 09 the Hiway called, I answered and found my way to Britt, Sioux City and Sibley Iowa, to Pipestone and Henderson, Minnesota and places more or less in between (except for the times I got lost.) Over 6 days the rig and I covered around 1,100 miles and didn't break down once.

Here is a more less truthful recounting of this excursion.

The first brief stop was in St. Paul to see a nice young lady, Deena tis her name, we briefly shared good conversation and an orange fizz and then it was on to Britt, Iowa --- and the 109th Annual Hobo Convention.

I had planned to camp in the "Jungle" but the old and well worn tent finally gave up the ghost. Also I like trees and dislike crowds (when crowds go this way, I usually go that way) and as pictures will show there were lots on one and little of the other. Thus I reconciled myself to staying in Clear Lakes Best Western, complete with pool, hot tub and free breakfast and commuted the 20 miles each day to Britt.

Ahh yes, a real roof over ones head, cable TV, microwave and refrigerator in the room - life is tough on the road. Even found time to visit the Clear Lake Gardens and commune with the koi.

But, on to Britt, the Jungle, the Ceremonies, the Parade, the Stew, the people and beyond.
