On the way to Paducah we stopped by The General's house in Galena and found both he and his lovely wife,

 Julia Dent Grant receiving visitors prior to the next days review of the GAR.

The next day we traveled on to classic mid-America, http://www.wapellocounty.org/americangothic/  and saw

not only the Front, but the generally not seen Back as well as the largely ignored Port and Starboard.

Talk about an enriching experience!

In fact discovered that if you are planning to move to Eldon, you may rent the house,

the last tenant  moved when she accepted a job elsewhere and at the time we were there it was available.

 

                             ---and even got caught in the act ---  

         
After getting lost with the new GPS, after all with  a GPS who needs paper maps (?),

 the next day we crossed the Mighty Ohio at Cave-In-The-Rock,

to arrive in the Dark and Bloody Ground, one of the four Commonwealths.

         
On to Paducah, making a promised stop along the way to visit the Tire Rim Lady
